Agree sampling, test methods, foreign-matter definitions and final acceptance limits before contracting. Example for cleaned hulless grain. The targets do not describe mechanically pearled barley. Protein is reported on dry matter using nitrogen × 6.25.
| Parameter | Indicative RFQ target |
|---|---|
| Protein | Report % dry matter; buyer minimum agreed |
| Moisture | 13.0% maximum |
| Test weight | 72 kg/hL minimum; confirm method for hulless grain |
| Foreign matter | 0.5% maximum |
| Kernels with adhered hulls | 1.0% maximum by mass; assessed separately |
| Broken kernels | 2.0% maximum |
| Composition and grain type | Beta-glucan or waxy status tested only when contracted |
Applications
Common uses
Used for barley flour, whole-kernel food ingredients and suitable feed formulations. Select the lot for the required milling or cooking performance. Buying detail: Hulless identifies a grain type, while pearled describes processing. Check residual hulls and abrasion status, and require measured composition before making a high-fibre or beta-glucan claim.
