Quality control & handling

Representative sampling and the signed specification control acceptance. Depending on the use, checks can cover colour, moisture, purity, dockage, other seeds, stones, broken or heated seed, total damage, odour, infestation, oil content and destination safety parameters.

Both names commonly refer to Linum usitatissimum. Commercial terminology varies by market and use, so the contract should state the required product name and designation. Neither term means planting seed.

02Are food, feed and crushing flaxseed interchangeable?+

No. Food contracts require human-food controls, feed contracts follow applicable feed rules, and crushing contracts focus on processing performance and the intended oil route.

03What is the difference between brown and golden flaxseed?+

They are recognized seed-coat colours. Colour can affect visual formulation requirements, but it does not by itself establish grade, nutrition, oil content or end-use suitability.

04Should a buyer order whole or ground flaxseed?+

Whole seed offers different storage and handling characteristics. Ground material requires a particle-size specification plus separately agreed packaging, storage and shelf-life controls.

05Can flaxseed be quoted for edible-oil production?+

Yes, when the intended edible-oil route, seed specification, testing and destination requirements are agreed. The resulting oil still needs a separate finished-oil specification.

06Can a named grade and oil content be supplied?+

No. The importing country's plant-health rules and import permit determine whether it is required and which official declarations must appear.
